Vantage Logistics has successfully completed the transport and safe delivery of two Out-of-Gauge (OOG) industrial equipment units from Cai Mep Deepwater Port to Dong Xuyen Port. Each unit measured 10.2m in length × 5.4m in width × 5.27m in height and weighed 65 tons, creating specific requirements for transportation mode, safety, and schedule.
By flexibly applying a multimodal transportation solution combining inland waterway and road transportation, the project team successfully navigated stringent infrastructure constraints.
The Challenge of Extreme Dimensions: 5.4 Meters Wide and 65 Tons
This equipment shipment presented a highly complex operational challenge, with a combined weight of 130 tons and a massive width of 5.4 meters. If transported entirely by road, the cargo would occupy nearly two standard traffic lanes. Coupled with the heavy payload, a strictly road-based approach would have required complex special permits, police escorts, and navigation of severe traffic congestion alongside strict bridge load limits.
A Specialized Transport Solution
Vantage Logistics engineered a custom solution tailored to the specific nature of the cargo, meticulously balancing safety, timeline, and cost requirements.
Leveraging the regional connectivity of the Ba Ria – Vung Tau port cluster, the equipment was discharged from the mother vessel at Cai Mep and directly transferred onto a specialized barge for inland waterway transport. This river route entirely bypassed road traffic bottlenecks and infrastructure overload risks. Upon arrival at Dong Xuyen Port, Vantage Logistics’ heavy-haul trailers were on standby to seamlessly receive the cargo and execute the final short-haul inland delivery, safely positioning the equipment at its destination.
Maximizing Speed, Optimizing Budgets
This strategic approach enabled the client to significantly cut down on procedural costs, port storage fees, and the risks associated with infrastructure damage. The equipment was swiftly cleared and safely delivered to Dong Xuyen, perfectly aligning with the project’s rigorous schedule.
